A Dream by Alexandra Loftin

A Dream by Alexandra Loftin

Featured in The Coup: Lucid, Vol. 32 (2014)

Sometimes
The white elk, antlers
paler than the moon
beckons me to follow it
And I do.
Into a forest
further and further away
from all physical needs.
Until I can no longer feel
Reality.
My fingers run through
The elk’s coat,
Soft strands of fur.
Learning its shape.
The lucidity
of the moment.
All before
The dawning sky
Howls and stirs
Devouring my elk,
I can do nothing
But walk back
And repeat the journey
Again, and again
