We Are The Leaves by Torrey O’Brian

We Are The Leaves by Torrey O’Brian

Featured In The Coup: Wanderlust, Vol. 31 (2013)

Leaves Grow, slowly, calmly
As if they have no care in the world.
With every passing day, they change,
Becoming beautiful and lively.
Bending to the will of the wind,
Their one powerful commander who controls all.
When the season changes, the leaves will grow dark
and fall.
We are the leaves.
Like the leaves we become more alive, free, with the passing days.
We are the leaves.
As the cold sets in, we will be lost to our powerful general,
Commanding us to come home.
And we will because we bend to its will.
We are the leaves.
